Work week an experience

James Flemington, 17, is in the middle of studying A Level Maths, Physics, Economics and Geography at Tonbridge School, Kent.

He joined Jee for a week of work experience. Here’s his story:

‘When I arrived at Jee I realised that it wasn’t going to be the type of work experience which involves endless trailing of somebody around construction sites, for the obvious reason that they are all a very long way away on the bottom of the ocean. This showed me that the majority of subsea engineering relies heavily on computer packages and remote operated equipment to complete surveys, construction and operation of subsea systems.

‘I spent some helpful time with the new Lead CAD designer where he showed me some simple construction drawings for parts of a new offshore renewable development, as well as a state of the art simulation of a machine designed to bury pipes under the seabed to prevent them from snagging fishing nets etc.

‘I also completed some work on the marketing side of Jee in relation to the courses it offers, compiling reports on the impact of various marketing schemes upon the sales of courses.

‘I very much enjoyed my week at Jee and it was a very useful experience to have ahead of my university application.’
